A new immigrant from China, Xiao moved to the United States at the end of 2019. It was a new start for her, but it was also the beginning of Covid-19. She felt lonely and like she did not fit into this country.
Luckily, She discovered rock climbing during college back in Beijing, China. Even though the first time she ever saw people climbing, she was afraid that climbing would make her bulky and not fit into a dress, or just simply this sport was not for girls, she turned around. Gladly, the adrenaline and excitement of rock climbing brought her back to the sport when she walked by the climbing wall again, and she started to accomplish what she had desired.
Climbing has changed her life track and has been a natural therapy for her since then. Xiao took a gap year because of depression and traveled around China, Thailand, and other Asian countries for rock climbing after two years of school. She gained so much experience, met so many global friends, and developed a deep love for the outdoors. After returning to school, she received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and kept climbing.
Boston was her first stop in the United States. She would ride the bike to the climbing gym in the middle of the winter, hang out in the gym quietly, and just climb because she thought her English was poor.
Three years since, Xiao has gained so much confidence through English practice, traveling, and climbing. Climbing has taught her so much: that you can be really strong by being a woman, that you can chase your American dream by working hard, and that you can be alone and just enjoy climbing when you are down.
Xiao loves all types of climbing. You can always find her scrambling around a boulder, roped up for a multi-pitch cliff, or trying to put her hands or fist into a crack. Not only an accomplished climber in her own right, Xiao also holds a N.A.S.M. personal trainer certification and offers customized training plans and intermediate & advanced climbing camps.
With a rich climbing experience and a global sense of culture, Xiao is stoked to share her experience with more Asians, females, and whoever wants to climb in a safe and fun environment! We are here to empower and uplift you!
